Fees & FAQ
Practical details
Fees, insurance, and answers to the questions people ask most before getting started.
Fees
Assessment rates
Assessments are billed at the same hourly rate. The total depends on the type of assessment and the complexity of the case, and most take between 4 and 18 hours. See the assessment fee guide.
Payment
Payment is by e-transfer, or credit card if needed. You’ll receive an invoice after your appointment, with payment due within 48 hours. Receipts are issued once payment is received.
Credit card payments are subject to a processing surcharge, which reflects the fee charged to the practice by the payment processor: 2.5% for in-person (tap) payments and 3.3% for remote or typed-in transactions. Only Canadian-issued Visa and Mastercard are accepted. There is no surcharge for e-transfer, and you’ll always be told the total before your card is charged.
Insurance
Psychology services are not covered by Alberta Health Care.
Many extended health plans (like Blue Cross or Sun Life) cover psychology services. Please contact your provider directly about your coverage.
I offer direct billing through the Alberta Medical Association’s Physician and Family Support Program (PFSP). For all other plans, you’ll get a receipt once payment is received to submit for reimbursement. Psychology services are also a tax-deductible medical expense.
Cancellation policy
Please give at least 24 hours’ notice to reschedule or cancel. Missed appointments or cancellations within 24 hours may be charged up to the full session fee. You can let me know by text, phone call, or email.

Services
Can you prescribe medication?
Psychologists don’t prescribe medication. If medication might help, I can share assessment findings with your physician or psychiatrist.
Can you complete forms for insurance, school, or disability purposes?
Often, yes. Depending on your needs and our work together, I may be able to provide:
- A diagnostic letter for school, sport, or workplace accommodations and modifications
- Student Accessibility Services verification forms for college or university
- Insurance or disability-related documentation
- Disability Tax Credit (DTC) forms relating to mental functions
Before completing a form or letter, I’ll need your consent and enough information from our appointments or an assessment to support what is being requested. Additional appointments, information, or assessment may be needed.
For some forms, particularly the Disability Tax Credit, your family doctor or nurse practitioner may be better placed to help, especially if they know your health history well.
Forms and letters are billed at my regular hourly rate, prorated for the time involved. Please contact me first to discuss your needs and the likely cost.
Should I start with assessment or therapy?
It depends on what you’re hoping to understand or change.
Therapy may be a good starting point if you’re looking for help with emotions, coping, relationships, or everyday challenges. You don’t need a diagnosis or a formal assessment before starting.
A formal assessment may be more helpful if you have questions about learning, attention, or development and want a clearer understanding of your or your child’s strengths and needs. It can also help clarify a diagnosis and guide recommendations for school, work, or treatment.
The initial assessment we do in therapy helps us plan our work together; it isn’t the same as a comprehensive psychological assessment.
Some clients may benefit from a medical or psychiatric referral, school supports, or more intensive services before starting private individual therapy.
If you’re unsure, a free 15-minute consultation can help us talk through your questions and consider where to start.
What happens during a free consultation?
A free 15-minute consultation is a chance to briefly share what’s bringing you here, ask questions, and explore whether my services might fit your needs. We can discuss possible next steps, with no obligation to book.
You don’t need to prepare anything or have everything figured out. This is an introductory conversation; it does not establish a psychologist–client relationship or include assessment, diagnosis, therapy, or individualized clinical advice.
Appointments & fees
How long are appointments?
Therapy and consultation sessions are 50 minutes.
What are your fees?
$250 per 50-minute session. Assessments are billed at the same hourly rate, and the Assessments page has a guide to the hours each type usually takes.
Do you direct bill insurance?
I offer direct billing through the Alberta Medical Association’s Physician and Family Support Program (PFSP). For all other insurance plans, I provide a receipt you can submit for reimbursement according to your coverage.
Are your services covered by Alberta Health Care?
No, but many extended health plans cover psychology services.
What is your cancellation policy?
24 hours’ notice is required to reschedule or cancel.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
At this time I do not offer evening or weekend appointments.
My latest appointment starts at 3:30 pm, and this spot is typically in high demand. I try to accommodate by offering earlier (9 am) and lunchtime appointments, and virtual sessions when appropriate.
Access
Where are you located?
4515 Bow Trail SW, Calgary, AB T3C 2G3.
My office is on the second floor, which unfortunately is not wheelchair accessible.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes. I offer both in-person and secure online video sessions, depending on client preference and clinical appropriateness.
Can I access virtual services if I live outside of Calgary?
Virtual therapy, parenting support, and some types of assessment are available to clients across Alberta, when appropriate for your needs. Some types of assessment require an in-person visit.
Services may also be possible if you’re in another Canadian province or territory, depending on that jurisdiction’s requirements. Please contact me to discuss your location so I can confirm whether I’m authorized to work with you there. This also applies if you’re temporarily outside Alberta.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No referral is needed. You’re welcome to contact me directly to book services or arrange a free 15-minute consultation.
If you plan to use insurance or third-party funding, check with your provider about any referral or preauthorization requirements.
I think I need something, but I don’t know what.
That’s very common. Get in touch, tell me a little about what’s going on, and we’ll figure out the next step together.
